Firebase Link Documentation

General

Installation

Install the Firebase Link plugins just like you would any other Joomla Plugin. Go to the admin area of your Joomla website, then go to Extensions >> Manage >> Install. Then browse for the installation files and install.

Once the plugins are installed, go to the plugin manager: Extensions >> Plugins, then publish the plugins you wish to use by clicking the red ‘x’ to make it a green ‘tick’

Getting your credentials from Firebase

After you have set up your firebase project, go to https://console.firebase.google.com/ and navigate to the Firebase project you’d like to ‘link’ to Joomla.

Now click the ‘gear’ icon beside “Project Overview” and click “Project Settings”. Navigate to the “Service Accounts” heading and scroll down and click “Generate new private key”.

This will create a JSON file that will be downloaded to your computer. This JSON text is your credentials for Firebase Link. KEEP THESE CREDENTIALS SAFE AND PRIVATE.

Set up your Firebase live database (Content Plugin)

In order to save your articles to firebase, you need to set up a Realtime Database on Firebase. Instructions on this can be found here: https://firebase.google.com/docs/database/

Set up your Sign-in Methods (User Plugin)

In order to save your Joomla users to Firebase, you need to set up the Email/Password Sign in Method in Firebase. Instructions on this can be found here: https://firebase.google.com/docs/auth/

Quick tip:

Go to: Authentication >> Sign-in Method >> Email/Password >> enable.

Configuring the plugins

Content:

Now you’re ready to link your Joomla Firebase plugins to your Firebase project. Go to the plugin in the Joomla Plugin Manager: Extensions >> Plugins >> Content - Firebase.

Now click the ‘Authentication’ tab and copy & paste your Firebase credential JSON text into the box.

Click “Save & Close”.

If your plugin is published and the credentials are correct, any content from the Joomla Content System that is subsequently saved will be sent to the Firebase Live Database. Pre-existing articles will not be sent to Firebase until they are re-saved.

TIP: Use Joomla’s “Batch” feature to re-save multiple items in one action.

User:

Go to the plugin in the Joomla Plugin Manager: Extensions >> Plugins >> User - Firebase.

Now click the Authentication tab and copy & paste your Firebase credential JSON text into the box.

Click “Save & Close”.

If your plugin is published and the credentials are correct, any Users from the Joomla User System that is subsequently saved will be sent to the Firebase Authentication list. Pre-existing Joomla Users will not be sent to Firebase until they are re-saved.
